Home office furniture
We’re best known for wardrobes, but the same skills that make a bedroom work can transform your living room. Most living rooms have the same problem: a television that never quite looks at home, cables that are hard to hide, and a growing collection of books, games, films and everyday clutter with nowhere to go. Freestanding furniture fills the gap, but it rarely fills the space, and it never quite lines up with the alcoves either side of the chimney breast.
A bespoke media unit or bookcase is built for the wall it sits on. We measure the space, ask what you need to store and display, and design a unit that fits from wall to wall and, if you like, floor to ceiling. Closed cupboards keep clutter out of sight, open shelves show off books and favourite pieces, and the television sits exactly where it should.
Everything is made in our own Dorking workshop from the same high-density Egger board we use for our wardrobes, so your media unit or bookcase can be finished in the same colours and materials as furniture elsewhere in your home. Then our own team fits it, with the same care we’ve brought to bespoke furniture since 1995.

Materials and Finishes
Our media units and bookcases are made in the same workshop, from the same materials, as the wardrobes we’ve built since 1995.
An almost unlimited choice of colours and finishes, so the unit can match your décor or other fitted furniture.
Doors and drawer fronts in vinyl-wrapped or Egger MFC panels, with a wide choice of styles and handles.
High-density Egger panels with 2mm ABS edging, twice the 1mm many manufacturers use.
Glass and mirror to BS 6206 where used.
Drawers on full-extension runners, with soft-close options.
You can see colours and finishes at our showroom.
Rooms We Work In
The most common place for a media unit. We design around where the television, speakers and sockets need to be, and where you sit, so the unit works for the room rather than dominating it.
A wall of bookcases with a fitted desk turns a spare room into a study. See our home office furniture for desks and office storage made to match.
Wide landings and hallways can often take a run of shallow shelving or a bookcase, making use of space that’s otherwise wasted.
A media area can be built into a wardrobe run, so the television sits neatly within the bedroom furniture. One recent project combined a front frame hinged wardrobe with a five-drawer chest and a TV area, finished in Highland green with bronze handles. See our work.
Low walls under a sloping ceiling are well suited to bookcases and low cupboards built to follow the slope, just as we do with made-to-measure wardrobes.
Alcoves either side of a chimney breast are a natural home for bookcases or display shelving, with cupboards below for glassware, table linen and the things you only bring out for guests.
Planning Your Unit
A few decisions at the start make a big difference to how well the finished unit works.
Most people want a mix: cupboards or drawers for remotes, chargers, games and paperwork, and open shelves for books, photos and things you love. Telling us roughly how much of each helps us get the balance right.
Know the size of your television, whether it will stand or be wall-mounted, and what equipment needs a home nearby. We’ll plan the unit around your sockets and aerial point so cables stay out of sight. [CHECK WITH CLIENT: do they offer cable management features such as cable holes or rear access?]
If you have lots of tall books or records, let us know at the survey. We’ll set some shelves to suit them rather than spacing everything evenly.
Tall units make a room feel smart and built in, while lower units keep it open and light. Matching the finish to your skirting, doors or other furniture helps the unit look as though it has always been there.
What We Can Build
Every piece is designed from scratch, so what we make depends on your room and how you use it. Popular choices include:
A media unit built across a whole wall, with a space for the television, cupboards for consoles and set-top boxes, and shelving either side. It gives the room a finished, built-in look, and keeps the television area tidy.
The alcoves either side of a chimney breast are the classic spot for built-in storage: cupboards below for things you’d rather hide, with open shelves above for books and display. We measure each alcove separately, because they’re rarely the same width, and make a matching pair.
Floor-to-ceiling bookcases for a living room, study, hallway or landing, with shelves spaced to suit your books, from paperbacks to large art and reference books.
Sideboards and low cabinets for living and dining rooms, made to the length of the wall or the space beneath a window.
Freestanding or fitted shelving units for any room, from a single run of shelves to a full storage wall.
A fitted desk with bookcases and cupboards built around it, sized to an alcove or a whole wall, so a spare room or a quiet corner works as a proper office. See our home office furniture.
