Wardrobes in Godalming
Godalming is one of the most characterful towns we work in. Its old centre is full of timber-framed and centuries-old buildings, its streets climb the hillsides above the River Wey, and many homes are older cottages with low ceilings, beams and walls that have settled over time. Around the town, in Farncombe, Busbridge and beyond, there are Victorian terraces, larger family houses and newer homes too.
Older homes like these are exactly where bespoke furniture earns its place. A standard wardrobe won’t sit flush against a leaning wall or fit beneath a beam, and it leaves gaps that look untidy and collect dust. A made-to-measure wardrobe is built to fit the room you have, angles and all.
We design every wardrobe around your space and the way you use it, make it in our own Dorking workshop and fit it with our own team. You can see door styles and finishes at our showroom, which has free parking, or we can bring samples to you in Godalming.

Our services
Whether your home is centuries old or brand new, every service is designed for your room and made in our own workshop.
Walk-In Wardrobes
A walk-in wardrobe doesn’t have to mean a huge room. In Godalming’s older homes, we’ve opened up alcoves and recesses to create compact walk-in closets, and turned small spare rooms into dressing rooms. In larger family houses, a walk-in can take part of a main bedroom or a whole room. We plan every interior around your clothes, with long and double hanging, pull-down rails, drawers on full-extension runners, trouser racks, wire baskets and shoe storage. Leave it open, or add sliding doors. Shaker doors can follow a sloping ceiling to close the walk-in off neatly.
Made-to-Measure Wardrobes
This is where Godalming’s older properties really benefit. Low ceilings, exposed beams, sloping floors and walls that aren’t square all defeat standard furniture. We measure every angle and build the wardrobe to fit, using infill panels to square up openings and doors that are shortened or angled beneath a ceiling line. Loft rooms and eaves get the same treatment. You’ll see the design as hand-drawn plans or CGI images before anything is made. Every panel is cut and edged to your measurements in our workshop.
Fitted Wardrobes
In the Victorian terraces of Farncombe and the family homes around town, a fitted wardrobe built from floor to ceiling and wall to wall gives you far more storage than freestanding furniture, with no gaps at the top or sides. We build as a front frame using your walls and ceiling, or as a full carcass with its own sides and back, and plan the interior around what you need to store. Sliding or hinged doors, in an almost unlimited choice of finishes.
Hinged Wardrobes
Hinged wardrobes with framed, panelled doors suit Godalming’s period homes beautifully, sitting naturally alongside original features. For more modern rooms, flat Super Matt or High Gloss doors give a clean look. Our Aspire range offers over 50 styles in almost 60 colours, made to measure up to 2.5m tall, with soft-close hinges as standard. Doors can even be angled to follow a sloping ceiling. Painted oak effect and woodgrain finishes suit older homes particularly well, and handles in bronze or brushed nickel add a traditional finishing touch.
Sliding Wardrobes
Small cottage bedrooms rarely have room for doors to swing open, and sliding doors solve that by gliding sideways. Mirrored panels make the most of limited natural light and help a small room feel larger. Choose between our slim Lazuryt frame and the bolder Shaker style, with mirror, coloured glass or panel infills, and every sliding door carries a 10-year warranty on its movement. Shaker doors can also be shortened to sit beneath a low or sloping ceiling, which is especially useful in Godalming’s older cottages and loft rooms, and both door systems are on display at our showroom.
Bedroom Furniture
We make bedroom furniture to match your wardrobes, so the whole room is designed together: dressing tables, chests of drawers, bedside cabinets, headboards and shelving, all built to your exact measurements. In an older home, that means furniture that fits uneven alcoves and low windowsills properly. A dressing table can be built into a walk-in or wardrobe run, and bedside cabinets can be made to the exact width of the space beside the bed. Drawers run on full-extension runners with soft-close options, and every piece can be finished to match or complement your wardrobe doors. We deliver locally and can install anything that needs to be fitted.
Working from home in Godalming? We design fitted desks and storage for small rooms, alcoves and loft spaces, built to fit around beams and slopes.
Older staircases often hide awkward, wasted space. We build made-to-measure drawers, cupboards and shelving that fit it exactly.
Local advice
A walk-in wardrobe works best when it’s designed together with the rest of the bedroom furniture, so storage, style and space all work as one. These are our tips for Godalming homeowners planning one.
1
The biggest benefit of a walk-in wardrobe is that everything is easy to see and reach. Plan the layout so the things you use every day are at eye level and close to the door, with occasional items higher up.
2
You may not need a whole spare room. An alcove, a large recess or the end of a long bedroom can often be opened up or screened off to create a walk-in area. This is especially useful in older homes where rooms are irregular.
3
A walk-in wardrobe looks best when it isn’t overcrowded. Choose one or two finishes, keep lines clean and resist filling every inch.
4
A dressing table, chest of drawers or bedside cabinets in the same finish as the walk-in make the room feel designed rather than assembled. If you have a favourite antique piece, we can design the fitted furniture to complement it instead.
5
Count what you need to hang, fold and store. Long hanging for coats and dresses, double hanging for shirts, drawers for smaller items and racks for shoes, ties and belts all need their own space.
6
Plan a clear area where you can stand, turn and get dressed comfortably, and check that drawers and any doors open fully without blocking the way through. A full-length mirror on an end panel or door is a simple addition that makes the whole space more practical.
Local homes
Low ceilings and beams: common in Godalming’s older cottages and town-centre buildings.
Walls and floors that aren't square: standard wardrobes leave gaps or won’t stand level.
Small cottage bedrooms: little space for doors to open and limited natural light.
Alcoves and recesses: irregular spaces that suit made-to-measure storage.
Loft rooms: sloping ceilings and eaves in converted spaces.
Period features: chimney breasts, sash windows and original joinery that fitted furniture needs to work around, not cover up.
