Wardrobes in Burgess Hill
Burgess Hill is a town that has grown in stages, and its homes show it. The streets closest to the station still have the Victorian and Edwardian houses that went up when the railway arrived, the post-war decades added large estates of family homes, and new neighbourhoods on the edge of town are still being built today. Each of those brings a different kind of bedroom, and a different reason to choose bespoke storage.
In the older houses, it’s usually about character and awkward shapes: chimney breasts, tall ceilings and rooms that are rarely square. In newer homes, it’s about making compact bedrooms work harder, because standard rooms often come with very little built-in storage. A made-to-measure wardrobe solves both, filling the space you have exactly rather than leaving gaps around a standard unit.
We’ve worked with homeowners in Burgess Hill and across Mid Sussex for years, designing every wardrobe around the room and the way you live, then making it in our workshop and fitting it with our own team. You’re welcome to see door styles and finishes at our Dorking showroom first, by appointment, or we can bring options to you at a home visit.

Our services
Whether your home is a Victorian terrace or a brand-new build, every service is designed for your room and made in our own workshop.
Walk-In Wardrobes
Open, doorless walk-in wardrobes are one of the most popular requests we get from Burgess Hill, and they suit the modern, open feel of many newer homes. A walk-in doesn’t need a huge room: a spare bedroom, part of a large main bedroom or even a corner can work. We plan the interior around everything you own, with long and double hanging, drawers on full-extension runners, trouser racks, tie and belt racks, wire baskets and shoe storage. If you’d rather keep things out of sight, sliding doors can close the space off without taking up floor space.
Fitted Wardrobes
In a new-build bedroom with little or no built-in storage, a fitted wardrobe is often the single biggest improvement you can make. Built from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, it uses the full height of the room and leaves no gaps for dust or clutter. We build either as a front frame using your walls and ceiling, or as a full carcass with its own sides and back, and plan every shelf and rail to suit you. With sliding or hinged doors in an almost unlimited choice of finishes, it will look as though it was always part of the house.
Sliding Wardrobes
Compact bedrooms are common in Burgess Hill’s newer homes and in the second bedrooms of older terraces, and that’s where sliding doors come into their own. Because they glide sideways, they need no clearance, so you can place the bed or furniture right up to them. Mirrored panels make a small room feel larger and brighter. Choose between our slim Lazuryt system and the bolder Shaker style, with mirror, grey mirror, coloured glass or panel infills. Every sliding door carries a 10-year warranty on its movement.
Made-to-Measure Wardrobes
The Victorian and Edwardian houses near the station often have chimney breast alcoves, tall ceilings and walls that have moved over a century or more. Loft conversions bring sloping ceilings and eaves. We measure every angle and corner and build the wardrobe to follow it, using infill panels to square up uneven openings and doors that are shortened or angled beneath a slope. You see the design as hand-drawn plans or full CGI images before anything is made. Matching wardrobes can be built into both alcoves either side of a chimney breast, even when they’re different widths, so the room looks balanced.
Hinged Wardrobes
Hinged wardrobes give full access to the whole interior and the look of proper furniture, which suits larger bedrooms and period homes. Choose from over 50 Aspire door styles in almost 60 colours, from framed traditional doors to flat, modern fronts in Super Matt or High Gloss. Doors are made to measure up to 2.5m tall, with soft-close hinges as standard. If the room is tight, we’ll suggest sliding doors or a combination of both. In the Victorian and Edwardian houses near the station, a framed door with a cornice can echo original joinery, while a flat painted front keeps a new-build bedroom feeling fresh and uncluttered.
Bedroom Furniture
To finish the room, we make bespoke bedroom furniture to your exact measurements: dressing tables, chests of drawers, bedside cabinets, headboards, shelving and media units for a bedroom TV. Everything can be finished to match your wardrobe doors, so the whole room feels designed together. Drawers run on full-extension runners with soft-close options, and we can deliver or install, whichever suits you. In a compact new-build bedroom, bedside cabinets made to the exact width of the space either side of the bed, or a slim chest of drawers built into an alcove, can make the room work far better than standard furniture. Come and see the finishes at our showroom.
Working from home in Burgess Hill? We can design fitted desks, shelving and storage to turn a small bedroom or alcove into a practical home office.
In a compact home, the space under the stairs is too valuable to waste. We build made-to-measure drawers, cupboards and shelving that fit the slope exactly.
Local advice
An open, doorless walk-in wardrobe looks stunning, but because everything is on show, it needs a little more care than a wardrobe with doors. These are our top tips for Burgess Hill homeowners.
1
Group clothes, shoes and accessories by type so everything has an obvious home. It looks tidier and makes it easier to find things at a glance.
2
Every few months, take out anything you no longer wear. An open wardrobe looks best when it isn’t overcrowded, and regular clear-outs stop it getting out of hand.
3
Baskets, drawer dividers and shoe racks keep smaller items in order. Wire baskets are ideal for knitwear and gym kit you want to see at a glance.
4
Without doors, dust settles more easily. A quick wipe of shelves and a regular vacuum keep the space fresh.
5
Hanging clothes in colour order looks striking on display and makes it easier to put outfits together.
6
Matching hangers make an open wardrobe look calm and considered, and good-quality ones help clothes keep their shape.
7
A few favourite pieces on display, such as bags, hats or a special pair of shoes, turn an open wardrobe into part of the room’s style.
8
Twice a year, move out-of-season clothes to the higher shelves or boxes and bring the current season down to eye level, so the open rails only show what you're wearing now.
Local homes
Little built-in storage in new builds: many newer homes come with few or no fitted wardrobes.
Compact second bedrooms: too small for hinged doors to open comfortably.
Chimney breasts in older homes: uneven alcoves either side of the fireplace.
Tall ceilings in Victorian houses: freestanding wardrobes leave a large, empty band above them.
Loft conversions: eaves and sloping ceilings that standard furniture can’t use.
Hallways and landings in family homes: coats, shoes and school bags with nowhere to go, where a shallow sliding wardrobe can make use of a recess.

It’s your choice. An open walk-in looks sleek and modern but needs a little more upkeep, while doors add privacy and keep dust out. Sliding doors are a good option because they don’t need space to swing open.
