The owners of this three-bedroom detached house in Fetcham wanted to make the most of their main bedroom. Rather than a freestanding wardrobe or two, they asked for a single run of storage across the whole wall, giving them room for both their wardrobes in one place and leaving the rest of the bedroom clear.
They wanted a warm, natural look, with plenty of hanging space as well as shelves and drawers for folded clothes.
We built a hinged wardrobe from wall to wall, making use of the full width and height of the room. The customer chose our Esquire doors in Lissa Oak, a light, natural woodgrain that brings warmth to the bedroom and works well alongside the white walls and ceiling.
Behind the doors, the interior is planned for two people. Each end has full-height hanging space, so there’s a dedicated side for each of them. The centre is given over to adjustable shelving above two banks of three drawers, which provide the folded and smaller-item storage a long run of hanging rails can’t. Matching drawer fronts sit flush with the doors when closed, so the whole wall reads as one piece of furniture.
Hinged doors were a natural choice here. With space in front of the wardrobe, they open wide to show each section in full, which makes it easy to see everything and keep it organised.
A main bedroom with all its storage on one wall, finished in a warm oak that suits the home. With hanging, shelving and drawers all planned together, there’s a place for everything, and the room itself feels larger and calmer for it.
It shows how much a single wall can hold when the storage is designed for it. A wall-to-wall wardrobe avoids the gaps and dead corners that freestanding furniture leaves, and every section is planned around what the owners actually need to store.
