This Banstead customer already had a run of shoe shelving along one wall, and didn’t want to lose it. The brief was to bring the whole wall together behind a single set of sliding doors: covering the existing shelving on the left, and adding a brand-new wardrobe with more storage on the right.
There was one more request that we don’t see every day. The customer owns a lot of tall boots, which never sit comfortably on standard shoe shelves or at the bottom of a wardrobe, and wanted a proper home for them.
We built two sets of Shaker sliding doors across the wall in a warm Lancaster oak frame. On the left, Cashmere satin glass panels hide the existing shoe shelving, softening the look while keeping it easy to reach. On the right, full mirror panels reflect the light from the windows and make the room feel even bigger.
Inside the new wardrobe, which has a Cashmere carcass, we designed a bespoke boot solution: a large pull-out tray at floor level, where boots can stand upright and slide out for easy access. Above it, a short hanging rail keeps clothes clear of the boots, so the whole space works hard without anything being crushed.
One wall, one consistent finish, and storage that fits the way this customer actually lives. The existing shelving gained a smart new front, the boots finally have a home of their own, and the oak frames tie in beautifully with the wooden floor.
It also shows that a new wardrobe doesn’t have to mean starting from scratch. Where existing storage is sound, we can often build new sliding doors in front of it and design the rest of the wall around it, saving time and cost. And because every interior is made to order, unusual requests like this boot tray are simply part of the design.
